Rupa Karyampudi (she/her)
Lawyer and Investigator
Rupa is a lawyer and workplace investigator. In her over ten years of experience, Rupa has developed skills that serve her well in her role as a workplace investigator. She is adept at conducting interviews with a wide range of people, gathering and summarizing large quantities of evidence, making findings of credibility, and drafting comprehensive and thorough reports. She values a trauma-informed approach to investigations, leading with empathy, and respecting the dignity of all parties and witnesses. Her background in the sciences has influenced her methodical and analytical style of conducting investigations.
Rupa is also a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, where she teaches social justice law. She covers topics such as privilege, critical race theory, intersectionality, disability rights, labour and employment, and decolonizing social justice theory and practice. Rupa is well-versed in issues that are often the focus of workplace investigations.
Prior to her current role, Rupa practiced disability litigation, representing clients in hearings at administrative tribunals, mediations, and court. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and strategic approach to litigation have gained her clients' confidence.
Rupa has spoken for numerous organizations and conferences, including the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers, LSO Employment Law Summit, and her alma mater, Queen's University Faculty of Law. She has provided equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) training to non-profit organizations and lawyers.
Before her legal career, Rupa obtained her B.Sc. in Biochemistry from McGill University.
Rupa enjoys volunteer work, including volunteering for the Pro Bono Ontario Free Legal Advice Hotline and as a Director of High Notes Avante, a non-profit organization that aims to relieve symptoms and stigma of mental illness and alleviate loneliness and isolation through the performing arts. In her spare time, Rupa enjoys traveling, yoga, podcasts, and spending time with her dog, Luna.
