Simran Bakshi conducts workplace and institutional investigations in both union and non-union environments. Simran leverages her prior litigation experience in conducting investigative interviews and in making strong findings of fact, including her assessment of the relevancy of evidence and allotting it appropriate weight, and in making credibility findings. The result is a detailed, comprehensive and thorough investigation report.
Simran combines these skills with her expertise in workplace matters in general, and specifically related to harassment, sexual harassment, bullying, workplace violence, discrimination (including unconscious bias, micro-aggressions, racism/Anti-Black Racism), and equity & inclusion, among others.
Simran is detailed oriented by trait, and strongly believes in leading with compassion, empathy and respect, and uses an anti-oppression lens in her investigations.
Prior to joining Mortimer Khoraych, Simran worked as an employment lawyer for nearly a decade at a boutique litigation firm in Toronto. She represented both employees and employers, assisting her clients in navigating through difficult employment law matters, including allegations of discrimination, harassment and other misconduct in the workplace. Simran litigated cases before the Ontario Superior Court, Divisional Court and administrative tribunals, including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
Simran has also volunteered at the Human Rights Legal Support Centre, Community Legal Aid Service Program, Pro Bono Students Canada and various other non-profit organizations, and has been a speaker for the Ontario Justice Education Network, Toronto Lawyers Association, and the University of Guelph Humber, among other programs.
Simran received her Bachelor of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business, with a specialization in finance and international business. and completed her Juris Doctor at Osgoode Hall Law School. Simran is called to the Ontario bar and is a member of the Association of Workplace Investigators.
Simran holds a certification in workplace investigations and has completed an anti-discrimination intensive program.
In her personal life, Simran enjoys travelling, spending time with family and friends, and trying in vain to teach her old dog new tricks.
